This registered charity (No. 251) was formed in 1972 and members have worked tirelessly throughout the years to raise money towards the purchase of instruments, sheet music and other equipment for the orchestra. It also subsidises the cost of courses and tours for participating players. Its membership consists of patrons and enthusiastic hard working parents of orchestra members, some of whom are ex members themselves. In addition to organising Saturday morning tuck shops the FMYO promotes and underwrites the popular Christmas Festival Concert.

The society depends greatly on the support of its Patrons whose annual subscriptions provide an indispensable base for finances. Additional patrons and tuck shop volunteers are always welcome and anyone interested in helping the activities of the Friends should contact the Chairman via the music centre.
