Manx Music Festival 2026

Published Monday 27 April 2026

Trombones to the Fore at the Guild

What a fantastic celebration of brass talent at the Manx Music Festival (known to all as The Guild), with both pupils and teacher delivering standout performances.

Leading the way was Matthew Coates (Castle Rushen High School), who gave an outstanding performance of BlueJohn to win 1st place in the Brass Solo Years 11–13 class. A confident and musical performance, and a thoroughly deserved result.

Adding a nice “blue” theme to the celebrations, brass teacher Juan Wright also took top honours in the Adult Brass class, performing The Bluebells of Scotland with style and authority – a brilliant example of inspiring students through performance.

Also representing the Years 11–13 class was Noah Parks (Ramsey Grammar School), who competed admirably in a strong field, performing with confidence and commitment.

In the Years 9–10 Brass Solo class, Holly Norbury and Tom Coates (both Castle Rushen High School) delivered excellent performances, showing great promise and continuing the strong tradition of brass playing.

From emerging young players to experienced performers, this year’s Guild has shown that brass – and especially trombones – are thriving on the Island.

Huge congratulations to all performers on your hard work, dedication and success!
